Islam The Straight Path Essay Example For Students

Islam The Straight Path Essay Islam The Straight PathAn assessment of the book by John L. Esposito: Islam The Straight Path. In this book , Esposito gives a compact, exceptional overview of the Islamic experience, a prologue to the confidence, conviction, and practice of Islam from its beginnings to its contemporary resurgence. He follows the rise and advancement of this dynamic confidence and its effect on world history and legislative issues. He talks about the development of Islamic conviction and specialize in legal matters, (religious philosophy, reasoning, and mystery), chronicling the battle of Muslims to characterize and cling to their Islamic lifestyle. Similarly significant is the basic data Esposito gives on the contemporary universe of Islam, from Muslim reactions to the difficulties of expansionism and modernization to the reassertion of Islam in governmental issues and society. This starting book in the instructing of Islam and Islamic lifestyle by Esposito can be ordered in three distinct segments with different sub-tittles. First segment focuses on basic components of Islam that incorporates Messengerand the Message; that are Muhammad and the Holy Koran. Second segment is about The development of Islamic character, as the Muslim Community, which incorporates the conviction and the act of the religion. Lastly the cutting edge Interpretations of Islam. Esposito presents three ideas; in the initial three parts he clarifies what Islam is. I accept that he worked superbly in introducing pre-Islamic time for Arabia and its encompassing area. Yet, I likewise accept that focusing on Muhammads (PBUH) life story has minimal applicable to Islam. Since Islam depends chiefly on the consummation message of God to the World. I accept if a non-Muslim peruser attempt were to comprehend Islam through this book the individual in question would contrast it with the idea of Jesus, or David the Texan religion pioneer, and numerous others. I found that Esposito guides its perusers to an away from of Muslims and non-Muslim forthcoming. All things considered, he is an executive of community for Muslim-Christian comprehension. Esposito has underscored on the sacred Quran, Gods message and the delivery person. I likewise accept that he has presented an unmistakable rule for Muslims and their training. Sprea ding out their laws, convictions, perspectives, values, and different strict duties. I additionally found that Esposito composes with great scholastic goals and composing on Islam from a western point of view. Esposito portrays the real factors of the Muslim world in their battle to characterize their social, political, and conservative personality. In spite of the fact that, he focuses that a large number of these aspirations are kept short because of absence of solid and dedicated experts in the Muslim world. As Esposito, presents the confidence, conviction, and the act of Islam from pre-memorable occasions one can obviously observe the strict occasions and the battle of a religion through time. As on page 31, Esposito says, Muslims consistently, the message of the Koran and the instances of the Prophet are the basic structure alliances of Muslim life. He additionally underscores on the significance of Islam history and human advancement, since he accepts that they are the record of that battle to decipher and to follow the Straight Path. (Esposito 31:1998)Esposito additionally, presents the possibility of Modernism, that Islamic occasions have just brought religion alone as well as monetary and military hardships toward the west, as he puts it, challenge to western innovation. The effect of western government has additionally affected the Islamic world. As the book develops, he discusses Modern countries; mainstream, Muslim and Islamic. Giving models, for example, Turkey being in the com mon segment, Iran as the Islamic, lastly the Muslim part of present day countries including Jordan and Egypt. Reaching a conclusion at the Muslims of Western Europe, the nearness of Muslims in Europe is definitely not another power, however an age of attack and overcome. Throughout the years Ottomans and different preachers have advanced their concept of Islam in numerous pieces of Europe, including Bosnia and Romania. The Importance of Understanding Muslims and Islam:Muslims and Islam are two related terms, simultaneously unique in its application. Let us first discussion about the significance of understanding the term Muslims. Muslims are individuals who have a place with the religion Islam. Muslims could act in different manners, introducing their activities in an unexpected way, a Muslim from India or South Africa. Another genuine case of a Muslim view would be, the exhibition of their political and faction activities. For instance, Saidi Qutb of Egypt accepted the west is dege nerate in their activities and he has diverse perspective on the West. The other model would be Saudi Arabias acknowledgment of United States Forces to land in the sacred spot of Islam and inviting the west. Our subsequent inquiry manages the comprehension of Islam. The message that this confidence brings to the world is essential to comprehend that Islam guarantees the sacred message of God, a power that has carried a fulfillment to the compositions of the three blessed books of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Islam is a religion that has brought harmony, edification, and solidarity to the devoted. I feel that this book could direct Muslims and non-Muslims in shaping clear perspectives on explicit Islamic strict issues. All in all, all through the book Islam the Straight Path, numerous understandings come to fruition by taking a gander at the numerous battles of a specific network. With the end goal of this book audit, I experienced the book to get a handle on a comprehension of the title The Straight Path. For a long time Muslims around the globe have encountered the change of their general public. The significant powers that fabricate Islam and Muslims together are the strict life, confidence, convictions and practices. Today Muslims around the globe face numerous difficulties of pioneers that assemble the network whether it is a mainstream or an Islamic country. As models given before about modernization which incorporates countries, for example, Turkey and on the opposite side of the range the act of Islamic Shariah. As a last note, my principle objective from this book survey is to see Islam from the eye of Muslims and Non-Muslims the same. Religion Essays

Acquaintance The capacity with react rapidly to the ever-changing commercial center is fundamental to the accomplishment of most organizations. The accommodation store industry is a profoundly serious one and 7-Eleven’s capacity to turn into a pioneer advertise pioneer has all the earmarks of being founded on the company’s capacity to rapidly react to the quickly changing tastes and needs of the market. 7-Eleven has not generally delighted in progress, particularly during the 1980s when things got downright awful for the organization. Aided, be that as it may, showed up as Ito-Yokado (the company’s Japanese Licensee).Ito-Yokado patched up the whole retailing approach of the organization by acquainting a creative methodology with retailing which, alongside the guide of mechanically propelled frameworks, essentially affected 7-Eleven’s achievement. Investigation Ito-Yokado’s creative way to deal with retailing is known as â€Å"tanpin kanri† or â€Å"item-by-thing management†, a business approach that rotates around the accompanying: 1. Cautiously following and focusing on the fine subtleties of the purchasing inclinations of clients 2. Permitting the clients tastes and shopping propensities to direct the items that are conveyed in 7-eleven stores. - Eleven has had the option to rearrange the way toward following and giving extremely close consideration to the shopping propensities for their customers by utilizing the data frameworks introduced in the entirety of their stores. Utilizing TECHNOLOGY TO IMPACT SUPPLY CHAIN VISIBILITY, VARIABILITY AND UNCERTAINTY Technology assumes a crucial job in 7-Eleven’s gracefully chain. The company’s best in class data frameworks seem to have decreased the company’s flexibly chain hazards by expanding perceivability, while lessening changeability and vulnerability. Gracefully Chain VariabilitySupply chain changeability includes instability in the progression of merchandise and enterprises in a flexibly chain. By having the correct frameworks set up, 7-Eleven’s gracefully affix inconstancy seems to have essentially diminished. The MOT framework at 7-Eleven, for instance, per mits stores to all the more likely gauge the quantity of individual SKUs, bringing about diminished stockpiling and waste expenses; and the end of potential bullwhip or snowball impacts. Quip has additionally sliced the measure of time and work that it takes to tally stock and to arrange new items, causing an improvement in organization proficiency and a diminishing in variability.Supply chain vulnerability Supply chain vulnerability happens when chiefs don't have a clue what to put together their choices with respect to (because of an absence of appropriate data). 7-Eleven senior supervisors used to shading code data physically truly monitor solidified sandwiches by their composed lapse dates and would in some cases make sandwiches on the reason when educated by corporate administration. Data frameworks currently permit stores to precisely conjecture the quantity of stock/things that should be recharged, bringing about altogether decreased vulnerability. THE BENEFITS OF TECHNOLOGY AT 7-ELEVENTechnology has assumed a significant job in expanding 7-Elevens gainfulness and piece of the overall industry. Seeking after a Customer Intimacy technique can be costly: 7-Eleven burned through $93 million on in novation as the organization put in new HP servers, remote LAN, PC based preparing programming and new requesting framework for new nourishments. Client private organizations, in any case, are happy to spend so as to construct long haul client dedication that gives lifetime incentive to the organization.

Reflections on 2 Years at Johnson

This interview is the latest in an Accepted.com blog series featuring  interviews with current MBA students, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look at  top MBA programs (or in this case, a top JD/MBA program). And now for a follow up interview with David Schuette, a second-year student from  Johnson at Cornell University. (We first met David last year – you can read our first interview with him here.) Accepted: How did your second year at Johnson differ from your first year? David: The second year at Johnson is quite different from the first. Second year course load is fully customizable and activities largely focus on giving back to the first year students. It’s also a bit less stressful (though not less busy!), as most people don’t have to worry about a job search because they loved their internship and Johnson has the  highest internship conversion  into full-time offers of any MBA program. Why isn’t it any less busy? Johnson second  year students spend the whole first half of the year pouring countless hours into preparing first  years for interacting with companies and interview prep. In fact, while the Career Management Center (CMC) is fully supportive of helping students find their way, the majority of training comes from clubs, career workgroups, and informal mentoring while the CMC provides behind the scenes structure and support to those groups. It’s a fantastic system that works well due to our supportive community at Johnson. The second half of the year is all about second  years solidifying their network of friends and having fun. There is more time for BBQs, weekend trips, or global treks. It’s also a great chance to take classes outside of Johnson; lots of people explore the broader Cornell campus taking classes ranging from programming, to philosophy, to the oft mentioned wines course at the  Hotel School. Accepted: Congratulations on your new job at Bain! How did you receive this offer? David: Thanks! I’m really excited to be starting in Chicago this fall. The process for full-time recruiting was very similar to internship recruiting except that it happens much more quickly and much earlier (done by November versus February). The actual interview process was identical in structure to internship recruiting, meaning another grueling written case as well as the standard case and behavioral interviews. Accepted: What was the role of Johnson in your job search and landing the position? David: When thinking about what role Johnson had in landing my position at Bain, I believe in taking a very broad view of the question. As anybody will tell you, business is all about the network. I think it’s safe to say that it would have been impossible for me to land a position at Bain without attending a program that had a great relationship with Bain. Similarly, I wouldn’t have been prepared for the interview if not for the collaborative recruiting mentality that we have at Johnson. My peer network was crucial in helping me prepare for my interviews, regardless of what company they were going to. Accepted: Did your involvement in the consulting club play a role in getting your job at Bain? If so, how? David: It’s always hard to say what factors are being considered behind the scenes. What I do know is that as VP of Education, it was my job to know the material inside and out and communicate that to first  year students. I actually believe it’s the latter part that was the most helpful. Consulting is all about working a problem and then explaining that solution in a way the client can understand. By going through the process of being a teacher to first  years, I believe my interpersonal skills were refined in a way that made my interviews (case and behavioral) more like conversations. I suppose the extra reps on case practice also made me much more comfortable with the process. I didn’t necessarily learn the material any better, but by being more comfortable with it I was able to relax and let my personality come through. Accepted: As you look back on your almost two years at Johnson, is there anything you would have done differently? David: With time winding down, I have thought about this a lot. While there were things I didn’t get to do, an MBA is pretty packed and so trade-offs have to be made. You simply cannot do everything and I don’t want to confuse things I wish I  could  have done with things I wish I  would  have done. So I guess my only regret is that I wish I had found a way to make each day longer! Accepted: What now is your favorite class, project or activity? David: Management Simulation this is a class that is as simple as it is elegant. You start by having to decide fewer than 10 numbers to input and it just grows in complexity from there. You must forecast demand, predict competitive responses (from other teams), determine pricing strategy, evaluate capital structure, and a bunch of other things. In some ways it is just a game. But in other ways it shows just how much I’ve learned over the last 2 years. Things like cash flow, multiple market pricing strategies, return on equity, advertising and RD investment, competitive analysis, and many other principles all play a role in running the ‘company’ successfully. I don’t think I could have asked for a better class to round out my MBA. Accepted: Do you have advice for MBA applicants applying in 2015? David: On my blog for Johnson, I recently did an extensive write-up on Picking a Program, which was targeted at individuals trying to make a choice between schools, but I believe it would also be a great read for prospective students looking to apply. In short, get connected to people and ask specific questions. I must have talked to over 10 people at Johnson prior to writing my essays to make sure I had a good sense of what the culture was. It wasn’t just to check a box – that won’t help you; you have to actually be interested for a person to open up to you. Also, I didn’t just try to talk to the president of the consulting club, but also the public speaking club, the beer club, Johnson bloggers, and a few others. Accepted: What advice would you give MBA students starting business school in September? David: Take time for yourself. Things can get crazy busy in an MBA. At times it is with classes and at other times it’s with social events. Some people relax with video games, others with yoga, and still others by writing. Whatever your method of relaxation, take time to do it. You might not realize how bad you need time for reflection when you’re in the thick of it, so think about it ahead of time. Block in off in your calendar. Whatever you do, take that time for you. It’s going to be an amazing 2 years. Good luck! Thank you David for sharing your story with us! My Dear And Loving Husband By Anne Bradstreet - 929 Words

â€Å"Marriage: any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities†¦ (CITATION)† In the definition of marriage there is no mention of love, yet in western civilization, love is considered the deciding factor in taking that leap. Anne Bradstreet wrote in her poem To My Dear and Loving Husband â€Å"If ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were loved by wife, then thee; if ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with me ye women if you can (CITATION).† Even though she lived in a Puritan home, Bradshaw freely expressed her love for her husband. This expression could have been viewed as just as radical as homosexual marriage is today. One of the biggest phrases people supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, LGBT, movement use is, â€Å"Love is love.† People associated with this movement also ask heterosexuals what they would do if marriage was not allowed to them. Yet the Hindi philosophy says that one marries, and then falls in love. Is the reason America is in such turmoil over the various types of marriage in comparison to other countries because this country loves first, and marries second? If love were taken out of the business deal that marriage essentially is, would America be in less turmoil? Summit Homes has taken a strategic decision to focus its operations in Western Australia and has further divided the market segment into the North and South.( ABS. 2016). Summit Homes North West and South West are involved in the distinct areas with peculiar and unique geography that calls for unique product offers for each area. The realization that the difference in the terrain requires a unique approach to each area has helped in adopting a new strategy within the group. The research and development division has crafted product offerings in line with the topography of the north and the south. The CSR approach of Summit Homes has endeared the group to new and existing clients. Partnering with Channel 9, Summit homes intervenes to give a deserving family of WA a home make over a new beginning in life. Matt and Kim to the rescue is a premier program supported by Summit Homes as part of its CSR to give back to the community. ( Matt and Kim, 2015).This gives it an advantage over its competitors due to the positive image it derives from this program. The program is quite emotional and forms a bond on the human level and shows the humane side of the business group. The other advantage of Summit Homes is the turn key turn-around time of its projects. ( Kaufman Panni, 2014).The customer is guaranteed that the product will be delivered on time. The use of its sub-divisions such Backbone steel and peak ceilings means that there will be no delays in delivery, as opposed to using external suppliers. Having its own factories that tailor specific products such as trusses and panels, has resulted in a from factory to site philosophy which other builders may not be able to achieve. The consistency of the quality of products is also maintained by using its internal divisions which work in synergy for the overall delivery of the group. Future Prospects The future still looks relatively optimistic for Summit Homes in the next few years as the economy is still performing strongly. The strong economy of WA is a factor to consider in projecting the performance of the group. Potential home buyers can only buy when they are economically secure and founded on a strong state economy. The point of market saturation of homes has not yet been reached and there is still a net shortfall in the supply of houses in WA.( Wikie, 2015). A new strategy would be required to diversify its operations to other states in anticipation of the saturation equilibrium that will be reached in the not so distant future. Currently confined to WA, launching into other states will widen its market reach and open new markets for its products. The entry into the new markets should be undertaken maximizing its key competencies in each new state drawing on its 40 years of experience. Another key consideration would be to go public and list on the stock exchange. Selling shares to the public would result in new streams of capital being unlocked for its projects, well as reducing the liability associated with being a totally private entity.( Herold, 2014). New investors will bring on board a fresh injection of ideas, direction and capital. In conclusion, Summit Homes Group has shown resilience in its operations over a period of 40 years. The historical background laid a strong foundation for its future organizational success and was instrumental in shaping its characteristic. The process of opportunity recognition led to the diversification at the group, division development and the resultant advantages that came with it. The future looks optimistic if the current macro indicators of WA remain stable. Changing the shareholding within the group would be advisable for the long-term success of the group in the industry. Persuing a Career in Civil Engineering Essays

Persuing a Career in Civil Engineering Essays Persuing a Career in Civil Engineering Paper Persuing a Career in Civil Engineering Paper Why do I want to be a civil engineer? Until recently, I did not know the answer to this question myself. I was extremely confused when it came to choosing a career. There were so many fields that interested me that I found it difficult to make up my mind. Then I read about civil engineering, an occupation involving the construction of buildings, roads, and bridges. As I looked further into civil engineering, I began to like many aspects of this career. Civil Engineers play a crucial role in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. Before beginning construction civil engineers plan layout and every other aspect of a building. As the article â€Å"Architecture (building)† on Microsoft ® Encarta ® remarks â€Å"Architecture must satisfy its intended uses, must be technically sound, and must convey aesthetic meaning† because â€Å"Architecture is a social art† (page 1 of 19). Structural engineers are principally concerned with the structural form of a building, whereas architects are concerned with the integration of the building functions, form, mechanical system, as well as the building itself. It is through their collaboration that complex building can be designed. Designing the overall frame of a building is the first step in constructing a viable and stable structure. According with the Attila Lawrence’s article on the â€Å"architectureweeek† web page, â€Å" In today’s competitive business environment, corporate cultures tend to focus on improving product quality while minimizing costs and managing risks†, (page 1 of 2). Furthermore, the English poet Sir Henry Wotton said: â€Å" Well building have three conditions: Commoditie, Firmenes, and Delight† (qtd. In Architecture (building) page 1 of 19). Structure and aesthetics of a building are related through efficiency, lightness, elegance, and the principles of minimizing weight and using the least material possible to control cost. Civil engineers and architects together design in detail the various components of a building and the materials to be used. According with the article â€Å"Building Construction† on Microsoft ® Encarta ®, â€Å" The major elements of a building include the following: The foundation, the structure, the exterior walls, the interior partitions, the environmental-control systems, the vertical transportation communications, and the power, water supply system†, (III elements of a building, page 2 of 12). Furthermore, as the article â€Å"Building Construction† on Microsoft ® Encarta ® remarks, â€Å"As a eneral rule, state laws require a registered architect or engineer, or both, to execute the design and to make sure the design complies with public health, zoning, and building-code requirements†, (II construction industry, page 1 of 12). Thus the designs of a building are not only influenced by the principles of physics and economics but also by laws t hat are set down by every culture to make buildings conform to their standards. Another factor that influences the design of a building is technology. The article Architecture (building) Microsoft ® Encarta ® explains: â€Å"Architectural form is inevitably influenced by the technologies applied† (page 1of 19). One such technology is the AutoCAD design software. It is used to design sophisticated construction, mechanical, and electrical, structures. According to professor Curtis Burkett, â€Å"AutoCAD is an excellent software that had changed the way of drawing plans and design structure† (personal interview). Paper designs of buildings are a thing of the past. In the age of computers, civil engineers design and test their structures on computers. Civil engineers use their knowledge to make the calculations required for the design of projects and supervise the drafting. Susan Knack in the article â€Å" who builds big† says that the most fun thing about civil engineer job is â€Å" applying problem-solving skills to resolve real-life problems, visiting job site, seeing my designs transformed from paper to real life, and every once in a while, getting to rappel off a building,† (page 2 of 3). Civil engineers calculate the most efficient way to put together the various components of a building, and establish detailed programs for the coordination of site activities. Eugene L. Bass in the article â€Å"The Law Civil Engineering,† says: â€Å"The law has attempted to be of assistance in providing a definition of supervision of the construction of engineering structures. It means the periodic observation of materials and completed work to determine general compliance with plans, specifications, and design and planning concepts,† (page 1 of 2). During construction the civil engineer is charged with the responsibility of insuring that the facility is constructed according to plans and specifications and that the materials and equipment incorporated in the project are those that were called for in the original design. Construction site are among the most dangerous of all industrial workplaces. In the article â€Å"The law Civil engineering† by Eugene L. Bass, â€Å" Supervisions of the construction of engineering structure does not include responsibility for the superintendence of construction processes, site conditions, operations, equipment, personnel, or the maintenance of a safe place to work or any safety in, or about the site† (page 1 of 2). Civil engineers have the control over the employees and the job site, and are the overall coordinators of the work, but they are not responsible for the safety of the workers at the construction site. Protecting construction workers from injury and disease is among the greatest challenges in occupational safety and health. For the construction workers is important to have contractual protections from responsibility for jobsite safety. Civil engineers continuously check the integrity of the buildings, and carry out any emergency reapers that might be required. According with the article â€Å"Building Construction,† Microsoft ® Encarta ®: the contractor, architect, and engineer are legally responsible for any deficiencies in the construction or design for a period of several years after acceptance,† (II construction industry, pages 2 of 12). A civil engineer skill is the knowledge of methods and techniques as applied in surveying and construction and maintenance of works. Furthermore, civil engineers have to take preventive measures to stop corrosion of building parts. For example, Susan Knack in the article â€Å"Who builds big? † explains things that engineers are use to do for the maintenance of a building. She says: â€Å"I investigate why buildings leak and deteriorate and design new construction and repairs to deal with these problems,† (page 1 of 3). Civil engineers have many ways to examine deteriorate building parts, but the most common is the nondestructive evaluation.. According with the article â€Å" Nondestructive Evaluation for Historic Preservation,† Architectureweek web page, â€Å" An investigation usually begins with a walk-through survey of the entire site and structure† then â€Å"A close inspection can then take place, documenting all or selected areas of the building† finally â€Å" An inspection of building systems may address all or only some elements and features of the building, including site and subsurface conditions,† (page 1 of 7). In conclusion civil engineers conceive, plan, construct, and operate facilities that meet basic human needs. It is an exciting field where I can use my creativity to build beautiful, useful and lasting structures. Moreover, civil engineers play an important role in a culture in the sense that a culture is known by what it creates and leaves behind for future generations. I have determined that civil engineering is the career that I want to pursue. I am counting on my passion for building structures that are unique to succeed in this field.

Mona Lisa Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Mona Lisa - Research Paper Example 71). The Mona Lisa has an allure that can’t be explained, its popularity to a level where almost anyone in the Western world will recognize the work. Furthermore, the image has become a part of pop art, its imagery of a serene woman with a slight smile gracing items from merchandise such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, and greeting cards. The work has been taken by other artists and re-imagined into their own conceptualization, the imagery a part of the public sphere, thus subject to being used to created post-modern commentary on the consumerist culture. The Mona Lisa is the most famous piece of art in the world, the skill with which it was rendered now secondary to the iconic impact that it has upon popular culture. The Mona Lisa was begun in 1503 and finished in 1506. The work represents all that was best within the discoveries that were made during the Renaissance in painting towards representing reality. The painting uses finely crafted perspective, with all lines converging to wards a singular point. The painting is an example of geometric scaling within a painting, the symmetry and harmony of the piece provided through the triangulation of the composition. Da Vinci used chiaroscuro techniques, the use of light and shadow, to model the curves and features of his subject. Dark undertones were used to create a foundation from which he used multiple layers of thin, semi-transparent glazes, a technique called sfumato. One of the most significant changes in the history of art is represented by the Mona Lisa as the movement was begun away from wall frescos and toward oil paintings that were done on an easel which changed the way in which painted art was most often formed (Strickland & Boswell, 1992, p. 34). It is possible that the piece represents the wife of Giocondo, a Florentine merchant (Strickland & Boswell, 1992, p. 34). However, both because Leonardo da Vinci was known to be a strikingly handsome man with fine features, and the similarities that exist in the basic structure of Mona Lisa’s face to his own, there is some speculation that this is a self-portrait with gender reversal, an examination of how he would look if he was a woman (Cremante & Pedretti, 2005, p. 248). The painting infamously seems to hold a secret, the slight, serene smile suggesting that something more is being shown than what is most obvious in the work. Therefore, the Mona Lisa, with its unclear subject and chaste, yet seductive mystery, is a work that has held the interest of the public since it was put on display in the Louvre and the world was introduced to her. The work is known as the most famous work of art in the world. According to Sassoon (2002), an Italian opinion poll conducted in February of 2000 asked the question â€Å"What do you think is the best known painting in the world?†. The overwhelming response at a rate of 85.8% was the Mona Lisa (p. 9). However, the reasons behind its popularity are hazy, an unclear path that is hard to fully determine. The rise of popularity in the 20th century might be due to the theft that occurred in 1911. The painting was missing for almost two years, thus creating a further mystery around the mythology of the work that is only enhanced by the mysterious look of the woman in the portrait. According to Strickland and Bosewell (1992), between 1911 and 1952, at least 61 recreations by other artists had come into existence, the iconic history of the painting then going fully commercial with the works of Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns making

Reflection Using Gibbs Cycle - Development of Your Academic Learning Essay

Reflection Using Gibbs Cycle - Development of Your Academic Learning Skills and Experience in Practice During 3rd Year - Essay Example Throughout the session, I did various presentations using PowerPoint to horn my visual skills. Ethical issues were also part of communication that I learned. Numeracy was part of module seven and the activities entailed gathering and recording data, understanding research data, drug calculation, and general mathematics. The activities involved in developing IT skills in module seven were word processing, blackboard discussion, searching Databases, Emailing, and the use of the internet. Additionally, throughout the model, I developed learning skills by engaging in activities like literature search, use of literature and research, summarizing information, time management, self-evaluation, and working to deadlines. The model also helped me to know ways of working with others. I now comprehend the role of multi-disciplinary team and negotiating in teams. Feelings At first, it could not see the significance of skills in nursing. However, after meeting severally with my personal tutor, I a cknowledged the importance of skills in supporting my transition into the role of a staff nurse. Evaluation Achievement in developing communication was evident through passing the test, but I failed my oral exam due to anxiety and panic. I also did not do well in exam techniques and I will improve by meeting in groups to share knowledge and read individually for six hours. In the first attempt, I failed drug calculation but I improved by doing weekly practice. This was achieved at a 100 percent on my second attempt. To advance critical thinking skillfulness, I read more books and attended tutorial. I achieved 54 percent in research and 50 percent in the dissertation and this was a good achievement in the critical appraisal skills. How the development will supports my transition into the role of nursing (Analysis) Communication The good communication skills that I developed during the module will help me when shifting from a student to a staff nurse. The written communication profici ency will help me in my career as a nurse because I will need to write clear instructions for the patient to understand. Through the development of the communication skills, I will efficiently communicate verbally in formal and informal way. This will helps me as a staff nurse when making presentations in formal meetings and in my peer work groups. Listening skills will be an important attribute, which will help me as a nurse to assist in getting patients to value me. This is because listening will be a way of showing my interests in what the patients will say. Listening skills is always associated with humility rather than talkativeness. It can be empathetic and therefore therapeutic (Debnath, 2009, p152). Numeracy Numeracy skills will also help me in my nursing profession. The drug calculation skills that I acquired in module seven will increase my competency. Through that skill, I will not make dose errors. It is essential for nurses to be able to make accurate calculations of me dicine doses and to be fully conversant with the component of drugs in current use. Nurses should have an understanding of formulae for complex calculations. This enables them to direct the correct quantity and volume of the drugs. Incorrect drug computations can cause mistakes in prescription and harm patients. Drug computation skillfulness will therefore enable me to give right ratios, percentages, fractions and be able to interpret information found in clinical

United Nation Organization Essay Example for Free

United Nation Organization Essay United Nations Organisation was established after World War II with a motto to maintain world peace. And this in fact is known to every one of us in general. But the question is, was this really successful in doing the same i.e., maintaining the peace in every part of the world or are there any failures? Perhaps this is also one of the most important area to assess. Successes and Failures of the United Nations since its establishment, i believe is a very essential topic to be focused. Here are some of the positive roles played by UN and its failures. Successes of the United Nations The First and foremost it has prevented the occurrence of any further world wars. Instrumental in the maintenance of international balance of power. It played a Significant role in disarming the world and making it nuclear free. Various treaty negotiations like Partial Test Ban Treaty and Nuclear non-proliferation treaty have been signed under UN. Demise of colonialism and imperialism on one hand and apartheid on the other had UN sanctions behind them. UN Acted as vanguard for the protection of human rights of the people of the world, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948. Despite crippled by Bretton Woods Institutions, UN has played limited but effective role on economic matters. Supported the North-South dialogue and aspired for emergence of new international economic order. Agencies of United Nations like WHO, UNICFF, UNESCO have keenly participated in the transformation of the international social sector. Peace keeping operations, peaceful resolution of disputes and refugee concerns had always been on the list of core issues. Since 1945, the UN has been credited with negotiating 172 peaceful settlements that have ended regional conflicts. The world body was also instrumental in institutionalization of international laws and world legal frame work. Passage of various conventions and declarations on child, women, climate, etc, highlights the extra-political affairs of the otherwise political world body. It has successfully controlled the situation in Serbia, Yugoslavia and Balkan areas. A number of peace missions in Africa has done reasonably well to control the situation. Failures of the United Nations: UN opinion on Hungary and Czechoslovakia were ignored by the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1950s. Israel had been taking unilateral action through decades in its geographical vicinity and nothing substantial has come out even by September 2010. No emphatic role in crisis of worst kinds like the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam crisis etc. UN was nowhere in the picture when the NATO rained bombs over former Yugoslavia. Uni-polarity and unilateralism has shaken the relevance of the world body. Unilateral action in Iraq was bereft of UN sanction. Failed to generate a universal consensus to protect the deteriorating world climate, even at Copenhagen in 2009. Number of nuclear powers in the world has kept on increasing. UN Could not control the horizontal expansion and proliferation of weapons and arms. Financial dependence on the industrialized nations has at times deviated UN from neutrality and impartiality. The world body has failed to reflect the democratic aspiration of the world. Without being democratic itself, it talks of democratization of the world. Aids is crossing regions and boundaries both in spread and intensity. Domestic situation of near anarchy in Iraq and many regions of Afghanistan, despite on active UN. The US President scheme of withdrawal has not able to bring any specific solutions in the region. In fact, the situation has been further aggravated. The UN totally exposed in the case of US invasion on Iraq in name for the search weapon of mass destruction. US has withdrawn its combat forces but the law and order and mutual distrust has worsened and at this juncture UN seems to be clueless.

Elizabeth Essay -- essays papers

Elizabeth The 1998 movie â€Å"Elizabeth,† directed by Shekhar Kapur, from a script by Michael Hirst, is a historical epic that takes place during and after the mid-16th-century period when England’s Princess Elizabeth was nearly eliminated by her half-sister, Queen Mary. It portrays the events of Mary’s death, Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne, and the struggles and events that she must overcome in order to preserve the strength of the English Monarchy, and establish Protestantism as the chief English religion. She must also maintain her stability and safety as a female ruler in a male-dominated society. The movie is beautifully made, with eloquent and realistic costumes, and prominent actors, and it successfully turns an important historical period into a riveting drama filled with action and romance. However, looking at â€Å"Elizabeth† from a historical standpoint, it is lacking in terms of accuracy. The chronological events in the movie do not follow with the historical events, and instances that happened over many years are crammed into a short period of time. Also, many events are exaggerated, or even completely made up in order to add to the dramatic appeal of the movie. Despite these flaws, â€Å"Elizabeth† does correctly relate the main aspects of Queen Elizabeth I’s rule. Elizabeth was born in 1533, the daughter of the infamous Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. When Elizabeth was three, her mother was beheaded for treason and adultery, and Parliament declared her marriage to Henry invalid, which made Elizabeth illegitimate. Her chances of ever ascending the throne were again thwarted by the birth of Edward, the son of Henry and his third wife. When Edward, a Protestant, died in 1553, his older half-sister, Mary, a Catholic, took the throne. Mary always held bitter feelings toward Elizabeth because Anne Boleyn treated Catherine of Aragon, Mary‘s mother, badly. To avoid angering Mary, Elizabeth â€Å"conformed outwardly to Catholicism,† but she secretly hoped and plotted to restore Protestantism. She was briefly locked up in the Tower of London, and was almost executed. The movie begins with the execution of three Protestant activists, ordered by Mary, illustrating her hatred and intolerance for Protestants. In order to avoid angering Mary, â€Å"Elizabeth continually had to proclaim her pious distaste for heresy.†(Jagger) In the movie, Mary ... ...o about two hours, and make these two hours interesting. To do so, facts had to be manipulated in order to make the movie more interesting and easy to follow. Important characters were omitted, conspiracies grouped together, and people were misrepresented. Elizabeth was portrayed as a happy and fun-loving young woman, when historians describe her as a somewhat cold-hearted woman who shared her father’s nasty temper. The filmmakers turned the history into a drama that has the essential characteristics of any entertaining movie: suspense, good guys and bad guys, and a riveting love story. They were not attempting to make an accurate documentary of Elizabethan England, but a dramatized interpretation of it that would be enjoyable to viewers, and provoke interest in the Elizabethan era. Legal Reasoning

Introduction:This paper aims to draft what I believe to be the US Supreme Court opinion for the case of Brigham City, Utah V. Stuart including the concurring and dissenting opinions. Knowledge from of the Fourth Amendments will be used to draft the opinion or opinions and an identification of particular justices with each of the opinion will be made as much as possible. In as much that the Supreme Court has made the decision (May 22, 2006) on the matter, at the time of theis, this paper is now converted into a digest of the case but still following the structure of the original instruction that is to draft (now to analyze) the opinion (now the decision) of the Supreme Court with the concurring and dissenting opinions.2. Analysis:Facts:   The policemen were responding to a 3 a.m. call about a loud party by arriving at the house in question when the said policemen heard shouting inside said house. They then proceeded down the driveway, and saw two juveniles drinking beer in the backya rd. The police then entered the yard where they saw through a screen door and windows an altercation in the kitchen between four adults and a juvenile, who punched one of the adults, causing him to spit blood in a sink. (Cornell Law School, n.d.) (Paraphrasing made)An officer from the group of policemen opened the screen door and announced the officers’ presence. After having been ignored amid the commotion, the officer entered the kitchen and again cried out, whereupon the squabble gradually subsided. The officers made an arrest of the respondents and charged them with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and related offenses. The trial court granted private respondents’ motion to suppress all evidence obtained after the officers entered the home on the ground that the warrantless entry violated the Fourth Amendment, and the Utah Court of Appeals affirmed. The State Supreme Court affirmed further by holding that the injury caused by the juvenile’s punch wa s insufficient to trigger the â€Å"emergency aid doctrine† because it did not give rise to an objectively reasonable belief that an unconscious, semiconscious, or missing person feared injured or dead was in the home. In addition, the same Supreme Court suggested the doctrine was inapplicable because the officers had not sought to assist the injured adult but had acted exclusively in a law enforcement capacity. It further held that the entry did not fall within the exigent circumstances exception to the warrant requirement.   (Cornell Law School, n.d.) (Paraphrasing made)The issue in said case is whether or not the police may enter a home without a warrant under the given circumstances as described above. The US Federal Supreme Court held that the police may enter a home without a warrant when they have an objectively reasonable basis for believing that an occupant is seriously injured or imminently threatened with such injury. The Supreme Court said:Because the Fourth Amen dment’s ultimate touchstone is â€Å"reasonableness,† the warrant requirement is subject to certain exceptions. For example, one exigency obviating the requirement is the need to render emergency assistance to occupants of private property who are seriously injured or threatened with such injury. Mincey v. Arizona, 437 U.S. 385. This Court has repeatedly rejected respondents’ contention that, in assessing the reasonableness of an entry, consideration should be given to the subjective motivations of individual officers. Because the officers’ subjective motivation is irrelevant, Bond v. United States, 529 U. S. 334, n. 2, it does not matter here whether they entered the kitchen to arrest respondents and gather evidence or to assist the injured and prevent further violence. Indianapolis v. Edmond, 531 U. S. 32, and Florida v. Wells, 495 U. S. 1, distinguished.Relying on this Court’s holding in Welsh v. Wisconsin, 466 U. S. 740, that â€Å"an importan t factor to be considered when determining whether any exigency exists is the gravity of the underlying offense for which the arrest is being made,† respondents further contend that their conduct was not serious enough to justify the officers’ intrusion into the home. This contention is misplaced. In Welsh, the â€Å"only potential emergency† confronting the officers was the need to preserve evidence of the suspect’s blood-alcohol level, an exigency the Court held insufficient under the circumstances to justify a warrantless entry into the suspect’s home. Ibid. Here, the officers were confronted with ongoing violence occurring within the home, a situation Welsh did not address. (Cornell Law School, n.d.)The Supreme Court further added that the officers’ entry here was plainly reasonable under the circumstances. It said that given the tumult at the house when they arrived, it was obvious that knocking on the front door would have been futile a nd that moreover, in light of the fracas they observed in the kitchen, the officers had an objectively reasonable basis for believing both that the injured adult might need help and that the violence was just beginning. The court explained that nothing in the Fourth Amendment required them to wait until another blow rendered someone unconscious, semiconscious, or worse before entering. It further said: â€Å"The manner of their entry was also reasonable, since nobody heard the first announcement of their presence, and it was only after the announcing officer stepped into the kitchen and announced himself again that the tumult subsided. That announcement was at least equivalent to a knock on the screen door and, under the circumstances; there was no violation of the Fourth Amendment’s knock-and-announce rule. Furthermore, once the announcement was made, the officers were free to enter; it would serve no purpose to make them stand dumbly at the door awaiting a response, while t hose within brawled on, oblivious to their presence.† (Cornell Law School, n.d.) (Paraphrasing made)The Supreme Court reversed and remanded the UTAH Supreme Court’s decision via a unanimous decision, hence there, is no dissenting opinion.   Chief Justice ROBERTS delivered the opinion for a unanimous Court while Justice STEVENS filed a concurring opinion.3. Conclusion:The case was unique in the sense that a state court namely the UTAH Supreme Court, which has decided unanimously, was reversed by the US Federal Supreme Court also unanimously. The majority of people in this world believe that a spiritual being created earth. In fact, quot;most religions and cultures believe the universe was created by a creative hand, either a sky god or some other physical objectquot; (Encarta 1). Think of it, as a trial to see which will win, creation or evolution. It has been the most argued debate in all of history, but creationism is more logical than evolution. To first understand what creation is about, we have to know what creation is. The Bible defines creation as the action by God that brought the universe and all its contents into being. The Bible also states, quot;God created great whales and every living creature that moveth, and so God created man in his own image, in the†¦show more content†¦Michael Behe, author of the recent bestseller Darwins Black Box, states, quot;I was amazed that people believe in evolution when there was this clear argument against itquot; (Behe 3). At first Darwinism was taught at schools, but there were so many flaws that these ideas were turned down, and a different form of evolution was taught. The new form was then taught along with a type of scientific creation (Encarta 2). This shows that schools feel that Darwin was wrong, and Darwin is evolutions top scholar. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; In order to disprove a way of thinking we must first know what we are trying to disprove. The definition of evolution is the complex process by which living organisms originated on earth and have been diversified and modified through sustained changes in form and function (Encarta 2). Thomas Robert Malthus first stated that the human population was growing too fast for the food supply. This, he said, quot;Is regulated by disease, famine, and warquot; (Infopedia 1). Darwin applied this to animals and plants and came up with the theory of evolution by natural selection. His theory stated that the children of a species intensely compete for survival. Those young that survive to produce the next generation tend to be embodying favorable natural variations and these variations are passed on by heredity. Therefore, each generation willShow MoreRelatedEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution957 Words   |  4 Pagesthe theory of evolution. To understand why the teachin g of evolution in school is important, it’s important to understand what it is, how it works, and how we benefit from its evolutionary history. Evolution is the steady development of different kinds of living organisms that have diversified from earlier forms throughout the generations. Without evolution, biology wouldn’t make sense because evolution is its key principle that connects and explains many facets of life. Evolution is a very importantRead MoreEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution1333 Words   |  6 PagesWhat is Evolution? Evolution is the modification of characteristics of living organisms over generations (StrangeScience.net, 2015); it is the gradual process of development by which the present diversity of living organisms arose from the earliest forms of life, which is believed to have been ongoing for at least the past 3000 million years (Hine, 2004). Common ancestry are groups of living organisms that share the most recent common ancestor, by which scientific evidence proves that all life onRead MoreEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution1054 Words   |  5 Pages Evolution is something that can be taken into different meanings, from the way you live. Some people can accept evolution and some can’t. The meaning of evolution is the way a different animal or species came to be, and how they are linked to a different of species that all share a common ancestor (an introduction to evolution). There is a lot of evidence to shows that evolution is can be proven like DNA Sequences, Fossil Records, Cladograms, and analogous/homologous structures, because there areRead MoreEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution1328 Words   |  6 PagesWhat is the theory of evolution? Many people who don’t understand science or Biology don’t know how to answer this question. â€Å"Evolution is the process of biological change by which descendants come to differ from their ancestors.† In our society today, there is many conflicts that exist between creationism which is the belief that a higher power created the Earth and made living things and the theory of evolution. Some people are debating whether to teach evolution in schools because theRead MoreEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution1079 Words   |  5 PagesEver wondered when the course of humans began or better yet if people started the way that they are? Modern humans started 200,000 years ago, but were not alway like this. The process of evolution brought us to humans. According to Evolution: The Human Story, evolution is the process by which organisms change over the course of generations. It is also compelling because ancestors can give rise to other relatives or descendants. Archeologists now know that not only humans evolved because paleontologistsRead MoreEvolution And Evolution Of Evolution884 Words   |  4 Pages Evolution Evolution, a change in the genetic makeup of a subgroup, or population, of a species (Nowicki 10). Every living thing in the world is capable of evolving into something. Cells evolve to perform different tasks and to become stronger. Charles Darwin is the founder of evolution, he realized that species change over time to ensure survival. The future of evolution can not be predicted. Evolution has been an interesting topic since mankind could wrap its mind around the concept. Whether one believes in it or not, it is hard to deny the cold hard facts that back up how every being has changed from its original form of life. From plants to humans, everything has adapted and evolved to be able to adjust to climate changes, habitats disappearing, and new predators.
